Lead Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced teacher to join our preschool as the Lead Teacher. The ideal candidate will have classroom experience, proper credentials, and a passion for building and growing a program with enthusiasm and commitment.

As the Lead Teacher, you will play a crucial role in planning, organizing, and supervising all student programs and activities within the preschool. Your responsibilities will include overseeing classroom staff, training, evaluating, and delegating tasks to Teacher’s Assistants and/or Teacher’s Aides. Additionally, you will serve as the primary point of contact with the State Child Care Licensing Agency, being designated as the “Licensing Facility Administrator” when addressing licensing matters.

​

The ideal Lead Teacher must possess the necessary educational qualifications and demonstrate dependability, confidentiality, and responsibility. Creating a happy and cheerful atmosphere in the classroom and while representing the preschool in the community is essential.

 

Key Duties:

  • Attend parent meetings and board meetings as requested by the Board President.

  • Regularly communicate with parents, addressing any improvements or concerns regarding their child.

  • Oversee the performance of Assistant Teachers and/or Teacher’s Aides, conducting yearly evaluations and reporting concerns to the Board of Directors.

  • Participate in long-range planning sessions with the board, Office Manager, and parents.

  • Work collaboratively with the Office Manager, including ordering supplies and materials for the classroom.

  • Address State Child Care Licensing concerns in cooperation with the Office Manager and the State to maintain compliance.

  • Conduct weekly 1-hour meetings with Teacher Assistants and Teacher Aides to plan and discuss classroom activities and any child concerns.

  • Train new staff and volunteers.

  • Organize a monthly activity between seniors and preschool students.

  • Collaborate with the local school district on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or special plans for students (e.g., behavior plans).

  • Actively pursue opportunities for professional development.

  • Supervise and assist with set up and clean up before and after school, greeting children and parents at the beginning and end of the school day.

  • Organize the graduation for the end-of-school-year potluck.

 

This is a year-round full-time position aligned with the Haines Borough School District schedule, including additional responsibilities during Summer Camp Sessions in June and July.

Compensation is based on experience. This is a full-time, year-round position with paid time off and benefits.

Requirements:

  • Current CDA certification or degree/credits in Early Childhood Development.

  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificates (CVP will cover costs after the first year).

  • At least 18 years old.

  • Background check through NABCS (CVP will assist with this process)

Assistant Teacher

Seeking an Assistant Teacher who is dependable, responsible, and enjoys working with children. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Lead Teacher and is responsible for maintaining a cooperative work environment.

​

This is a year round full-time position aligned with the Haines Borough School District schedule, including additional responsibilities during Summer Camp Sessions in June and July.

 

Starting wage of $20+/hr DOE

​

Key Duties:

  • Arrive 15 minutes before school begins and stay 45 minutes after school, with an additional 1 hour per week for planning and discussion with the Lead Teacher.

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with set-up before school.

  • Greet children at the beginning of the school day.

  • Implement weekly planned projects and activities, sharing ideas during planning sessions with the Lead Teacher.

  • Plan and implement small group activities for circle time and supervise small group play areas during free playtime.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities.

  • Clean the school at the end of the day and complete weekly cleaning duties.

  • Complete tasks assigned by the Lead Teacher.

 

Requirements:

  1. Current CPR and First Aid Certificates (CVP will cover costs after the first year).

  2. At least 18 years old.

  3. Background check through NABCS (CVP will assist with this process)

Office Manager

As the Office Manager at CVP, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our preschool operations.

 

This is a year round part-time position of approx. 24 hours per week aligned with the Haines Borough School District schedule, including additional responsibilities during Summer Camp Sessions in June and July.

 

Starting wage of $20+/hr. DOE

Key Responsibilities

  1. Bookkeeping:

    • Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, grant and tuition assistance forms.

    • Prepare monthly financial statements for board meetings.

    • Collect tuition, maintain tuition records, and manage records related to gaming permits, workman’s compensation, and insurance.

    • Collaborate with the finance committee to prepare the annual budget, complete and file quarterly reports, and handle annual taxes.

  2. Operations:

    • Oversee preschool operations and file necessary forms regarding immunizations with the Health Department.

    • Attend monthly board meetings as requested.

    • Collect mail and monitor the preschool telephone and answering machine.

    • Work with the Facility Administrator (usually the Lead Teacher) to address State Licensing concerns.

  3. Liaison:

    • Act as a liaison between Chilkat Valley Preschool and various entities, including Haines Headstart, Haines Borough School District, Haines Borough staff, Borough Assembly, Senior Center, and granting agents.

  4. Fundraising Coordinator:

    • Help coordinate fundraising events throughout the school year and summer in collaboration with the board of directors and fundraising committee.

    • Oversee or manage volunteer schedules, order food/supplies, and coordinate event logistics.

    • Propose fundraising ideas or special projects to the fundraising committee and board for approval.

  5. Special Duties:

    • Maintain an up-to-date schedule/calendar of upcoming events and vacation days visible to working staff and parents.

    • Assist the Lead Teacher in coordinating substitutes for staff members in their absence and act as a backup in the classroom when needed.

Substitute Teachers

We are seeking dependable and responsible substitute teachers who enjoy working with children to step in when our regular staff are unavailable. As a Substitute Teacher, you will assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining a positive and cooperative classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with the Lead Teacher/Teachers to support daily classroom activities.
Assist with classroom setup and cleanup.
Implement planned projects and activities.
Supervise small group activities and free playtime.
Ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all students.


Position Details:
This is a part-time, on-call position with flexible hours. Wage of $20/hr.​
